Problems of Reading Comprehension
The problems during the process of improving reading comprehension is the basic ideas of reading which establishes in the students’ minds. In the first place, they may not understand the functions of developing their reading comprehension skill. It discourages them to read and develop their knowledge. On the other hand, external aspect like motivation may influence students’ willingness to read and improve their reading comprehension skill. Some people think that from young age you should read scientific discourse which is not interesting for children.
Solutions for the Teacher
To overcome the problems, we offer you some solutions to improve reading comprehension. First, as teacher, you should be able to build basic knowledge and understanding of the students about the importance of reading. It may be hard to give such an understanding for 2nd grade students, but it does not mean that you cannot do nothing to form such a good basic knowledge in order to develop further their reading comprehension skill.
You should bear in mind that for children, good start to improve reading comprehension not always means that they should read scientific discourse. Comic and short story books with fancy illustration will be such a good beginning for 2nd grade students to build their willingness to read. The students will find that reading is such an interesting activity, and from this point you will able to direct your students to read some other texts which will need more comprehension and analysis.
